Anandita Bajpai ist wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin am Leibniz-Zentrum Moderner Orient in Berlin. Zuvor war sie als Dozentin an der Humboldt-Universität Berlin tätig. Sie ist die Autorin von Speaking the Nation: The Oratorical Making of Secular, Neo-Liberal India (Oxford University Press, 2018) und hat kürzlich einen Band über Indiens kulturelle Beziehungen zur DDR mit dem Titel Cordial Cold War: Cultural Actors in India and the German Democratic Republic (Sage, 2021) herausgegeben. Ihre Forschungen über den deutschen Auslandsrundfunk der DDR, Radio Berlin International, führten sie ins Archiv des Deutschen Rundfunks in Potsdam und seit 2018 zu umfangreicher Feldforschungsarbeit nach Indien, wo sie die Erfahrungsberichte mehrererRadiohörer*innen aufzeichnete. Die Idee, einen Film zu machen, entstand aus dem Bedürfnis, die Geschichte des Kurzwellenradios nicht nur aus der Perspektive der Radiosender zu erzählen, sondern aus der Perspektive der Menschen, die in den indischen Städten und Dörfern regelrecht an den Radiogeräten kleben.

Anandita Bajpai is a researcher at the Berlin-based Leibniz-Zentrum Moderner Orient. She has previously been a lecturer at the Humboldt-Universität Berlin. She is the author of Speaking the Nation: The Oratorical Making of Secular, Neo-Liberal India (Oxford University Press, 2018) and has recently edited a volume on India's cultural relations with the German Democratic Republic titled Cordial Cold War: Cultural Actors in India and the German Democratic Republic (Sage, 2021). Her research on the GDR-based German foreign broadcasting service Radio Berlin International has led her to conduct archival research in the Deutsches Rundfunkarchiv in Potsdam and extensive fieldwork in India since 2018, where she has located and traced the stories of several radio listeners. The idea to make a film came from the urge to tell the story of shortwave radio listening not just from the perspective of radio stations but from that of people glued to radio sets in Indian towns and villages.
